HEALTH AND WELL BEING:

 Iberville Parish is fortunate to have excellent health services within its community, including a 100-bed hospital, many physicians in a variety of specialties, a parish Health Unit, a health clinic in East Iberville, and nursing home facilities in the parish.

River West Medical Center

River West Medical Center is an acute care hospital with an advanced emergency room, maternity ward, surgery unit, heart catherization unit, and rehabilitation unit. River West is important to the community in providing quality healthcare for local residents in Iberville, and also as a stable business that employs more than 300 people.

The hospital is located on Plaza Drive in Plaquemine

Iberville Parish Health Unit

The Iberville Parish Health Unit is operated by the Louisiana Department of Health and Human Services, and is located in a new building provided by the parish. Health Unit services include immunizations, family planning services, follow up care for tuberculosis, and the WIC Program (Women, Infants & Children) vouchers for milk and foods. Clinics are also offered at various times on sexually transmitted diseases.

Appointments are not required for immunizations. However, they are required for the other Health Unit services. Those requesting placement in the WIC Program should bring a picture ID and proof of income and residence to their appointment.

For more information on Health Unit services and appointments, call 225-687-9021. The Health Unit is located at 24705 Plaza Drive, Suite A, in Plaquemine, adjacent to River West Medical Center. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

St. Gabriel Health Clinic

The St. Gabriel Health Clinic, Inc. is a non-profit organization partially funded by federal and state government, offering quality health care to the public. Among its services are screenings for anemia, blood pressure, cancer, cholesterol, diabetes, HIV, pregnancy, etc… It also provides immunizations, breast examinations, diabetes management, dental referrals, drug testing, EKG services, physical exams, family planning services, nutrition guidance and prescription assistance. It provides health services to students at East Iberville Elementary and High School.

Fees are based on ability to pay according to federal poverty guidelines. It also accepts a variety of health insurances. The St. Gabriel Health Clinic is located at 5760 Monticello Street in St. Gabriel. Call 225-642-9676 for more information.
