Pet Adoptions

If you are interested in adopting a pet, then visit our petfinder website to see the pets currently available. If you would like to proceed with adopting a pet available, then please download the Pet Adoption Application form. Please fill it out and send it to alison@ibervilleparish.com or fax it to (225) 685-1096 with the subject "Pet Application". 

If you know the name of the animal you are interested in, please write it on the designated area, if you do not know it, just write a breed, species, and size (e.g. kitten, cat, Lab, small dog, Chihuahua) that  you would be interested in when available. The applications will be evaluated, a home visit may be required, and we will get in touch with the applicants who fit the best criteria for each type of dog/cat.

Bee Problem

Iberville Parish Animal Control does not have the means or equipment to handle any problematic bees.


Wasp or other Insects

Call an exterminator. Iberville Parish Animal Control does not have the means or equipment to handle any problematic insects.

Disposing of Dead Animals

It is the animal owner's responsibility to dispose of any dead animal that is located on his/her property. Proper burial, or disposal in a sufficient bag with the regular garbage pick-up is suitable.

To report dead animals on state highways, please call (225) 687-3019 on the west bank or (225) 675-5315 on the east bank.

Injured Animals

Call the Shelter at (225) 687-5881 to report any injured animals. Please do not approach or handle any injured animal, for they can potentially bite if they are in pain.

Reporting Animal Cruelty

Animal cruelty should be reported to the Shelter at (225) 687-5881. Physical abuse of animals in progress, including organized dog fighting, constitutes an emergency.

Dog and Cat Traps

Dog and cat trap requests are handled on a first come, first serve basis. There is no charge to the property owner to have a trap put out on their property. All traps are distributed throughout Iberville Parish on Mondays and Tuesdays and all traps are picked up throughout the parish on Thursdays and Fridays. To request a trap, call the Shelter at (225) 687-5881.

Stray Animals

Stray animals that are trapped or captured when at large have a five day holding period. After five days, all of the owner's rights to the animal are lost and the shelter is allowed to neuter/spay, then transfer, or adopt-out the animal. Call the Shelter at (225) 687-5881 and an Animal Control Officer will pick it up. If the stray animal is friendly, tie it up or place it in a pen. If the stray animal is roaming the area, and you feel it is unsafe to handle, call the Shelter and request a trap.

Snakes

If a snake is discovered in a residence, call the shelter at (225) 687-5881. Someone in the residence must be able to show the Animal Control Officer the location of the snake when the officer arrives on scene. The Animal Control Officer is not allowed to move any furniture within a residence.

Livestock at Large

Report any livestock not in a restricted area to the Shelter at (225) 687-5881 during business hours. If after business hours, call 911.

Reporting Cat and Dog Bites

Report dog or cat bites to the Shelter at (225) 687-5881 during business hours. If after business hours, please call 911. A description of the incident, pictures, and reports will need to be fulfilled subsequent to any bite call.

Fees

Dogs
  • $100.00 to adopt
  • $35.00 impound fee, plus boarding fee of $10.00 per day.
  • Hunting dogs will not be picked up during hunting season (December through February). However, if hunting dogs are picked up the charges of this section shall apply.

**Proof of rabies vaccination is required prior to release of impounded dogs**

Cats
  • $50.00 to adopt kittens
  • $30.00 to adopt adult cats
  • $15.00 impound fee, plus daily boarding fee of $10.00.

**Proof of rabies vaccination is required prior to release of impounded cats**

Livestock
  • $15.00 per day for boarding, plus impound fee of $50.00
  • An additional trailer fee of $25.00 shall be charged if a trailer is needed.

**Proof of Coggins test is required prior to release of impounded livestock**

Rabies

State law requires that all dogs and cats over the age of four months be vaccinated against rabies. A licensed veterinarian must give the rabies vaccination. All dogs and cats must wear a collar with the rabies vaccination tag visibly displayed at all times.

The Iberville Parish Animal Control Shelter, in conjunction with local veterinarians, hosts an annual Rabies Vaccination Clinic. This clinic provides the Rabies vaccination at a reduced cost.

Unwanted Animals

Any animal that you may wish to ‘Owner Release’ can be done so free of charge at the Iberville Parish Animal Control Shelter. ‘Owner releasing’ an animal requires filling out an ‘Owner Release’ form. This form states that you (as owner) are turning over all rights of the animal to the shelter.

A description of the animal, current veterinarian records or any paperwork concerning the animal is appreciated upon release.
Animals that are "Owner Surrendered" can be transferred to a rescue or adopted to another person right away.
